For most animal health issues, on-demand virtual veterinary services are all that you’ll need. However, that doesn’t mean they replace in-person veterinary medical clinic visits. In fact, a virtual vet cannot prescribe or diagnose your pet unless they’ve recently done a hands-on exam of your pet. This federal mandate is called a VCPR.
Establishing the VCPR (veterinarian-client-patient relationship) is making sure you’ve had a recent office visit and a hands-on exam with the licensed vet you’re speaking to. If you have, then your vet may be able to diagnose or treat your pet. If not, they can still answer questions and offer advice on non-emergency health care issues.
